If you were planning on listing your house for sale this spring, you may be reconsidering due to the Covid-19 global pandemic. While real estate has been deemed an essential service, the situation is more complex than that. Many clients have asked us: should I list my house for sale as planned, or should I wait?
As a licensed realtor with Century 21 in Toronto, I have some thoughts on what’s best for homeowners at this time.
Our thoughts
If you truly have to sell your house and are on a strict timeline – for example, because you’ve already bought a new home or are relocating due to a change in your career – we can make it work. That said, if you can hold off, we strongly recommend waiting. The market is soft and restrictions placed on realtors at this time make it more difficult to adequately show your home to potential buyers and get a competitive sale price. Your listing could sit on the market for a long time and grow stagnant. If at all possible, put your plans on hold and revisit the idea in a few months. We look forward to a rebound in the housing market, but sellers certainly are not in an ideal position at this time.
If you have questions about your specific situation or would like to talk about selling your home, please give us a call. We’d be happy to offer some guidance and determine the best course of action for your family. As always, our goal is to do what’s best for our clients. Stay safe and healthy, everyone!
